Privacy Policy
We respect your privacy. Read more about how we protect your data.
1. Introduction
Gatangaza Community Initiative (“GCI,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a registered Community-Based Organisation committed to transforming lives through water, health, and education. We are dedicated to protecting the privacy of our donors, volunteers, partners, and the communities we serve. This policy explains how we handle personal information in accordance with our mission and relevant data protection principles.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information to facilitate our charitable programs and maintain transparency with our supporters.
Donor & Volunteer Information: Name, email, phone number, and physical address provided when making a donation or signing up to volunteer.
Program Beneficiary Data: Information regarding health, nutrition status, or educational needs of the children and families we support (collected with consent for project monitoring).
Financial Records: Secure processing of donations. We do not store full credit card details; these are handled by secure third-party payment processors.
Digital Presence: Standard non-personal data (IP addresses, browser types) to help us understand how people interact with our mission online.
3. How We Use Your Information
Your data helps us drive impact in the Gatangaza community. We use it to:
Process and acknowledge donations and sponsorships.
Provide updates on project milestones (e.g., borehole completion or student progress).
Manage our Nutrition and Scholastic Support programs.
Ensure accountability and transparency in our annual impact reporting.
Comply with statutory requirements for NGOs/CBOs in Uganda.
4. Sharing & Disclosure of Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade donor or beneficiary lists. Information is only shared under these conditions:
Program Partners: With partner organizations directly involved in implementing water or health projects.
Legal Compliance: When required by Ugandan authorities or to protect the safety of the children in our care.
Anonymized Reporting: We may share "impact statistics" (like the 11,000+ reached) with the public, but individual identities remain protected unless specific consent is given (e.g., a success story).
5. Data Security
Given our work with vulnerable children, we implement strict safeguards. We follow "Do No Harm" principles, ensuring that photos and personal stories of children are used only with proper authorization and for the sole purpose of advocacy and fundraising.
6. Your Rights & Choices
As a supporter or community member, you have the right to:
Request a summary of how your donations were utilized.
Update your contact preferences or "unsubscribe" from newsletters.
Request the removal of your personal data from our active records.
7. Retention of Data
We retain records for as long as necessary to meet audit requirements and to maintain the historical record of the initiative’s impact.
